Sperry Top-Sider Original Boat Shoe
If you are reading this, you probably own a pair of boat shoes. Let’s be honest, you might even have more than one pair. Boat shoes, selvage denim, OCBD’s… I realize these are not newfangled items of style blogs. But who wants up-to-the-minute when you can wear the original. Yes, I have a more expensive BoO version of the Top-Sider and often covet other versions of the boat shoe from Sebago, Quoddy, etc, but every time I step into my Top-Sider Originals, I feel comfortable, relaxed and at home.
I’m entering the prime time with these, as I have had ‘em for a couple years and are many moons past the breaking in stages. They have molded to my foot frame and become comfortable enough to wear anywhere, but not beat up to the point where I think twice about throwing them on.
In truth, they are nothing flashy. Though many good men sport the classic brown leather uppers, white rubber outsole, and strings cut off and tied under, they somehow still reflect my own persona… they have the uncanny ability to represent many yet one.
To get your own, you don’t have to look far… make the jump over to Sperry. Best $75 you will spend this summer.

How’d you get the laces like that?
Some of the J Crew and other collaborations already come with the laces done under. These however, are not so and I did it myself.
All you need to do is simply tie the leather laces underneath and put a double knot close to the eyelet. At that point you must trim the excess leather lace and you are done.
Before you cut, wear them around the house a little to make sure you have a good fit. Lace them up tight, but not too tight… as once you cut the leather, there is no turning back.
Good luck!
