Covet: Alden Indy Boot

September 9, 2010

Autumn is just around the corner and though the cool weather has yet to return, what has returned is my desire for the ultimate fall boot. Though I am not in need for fall footwear, let’s be honest… this is not about need. This is about desire. At any given time there are a few different boots that I covet (Alden PTB, Chromexcel Plaza Wingtip, Tan Suede PTBoot w/Crepe Sole, Red Wing Iron Ranger, or Red Wing Irish Setter) but the boot that keeps the #1 spot on the list is the Alden Indy Boot.

After narrowing the focus to the Indy boot, you are not done. You then must decide, with which do you begin? Brown? Black? Natural? Suede? Oh the choices…

Though some of these colors are not readily available (Whiskey and Kudu to name a few) it remains difficult for me to know where to begin. As of now, I suppose the classic brown is a good start, but the black or even the suede look fantastic. I really am curious how the natural will age as well. I imagine, beautifully. Tough.

Some of the places I frequent to ponder/drool over the various Indy’s: Alden of Carmel, Leather Soul HawaiiBlackbird

I suppose no matter what I decide… I win.

My pair of 405s is probably my most prized possession. I’m such a sucker for Indy boots.

If you don’t mind me asking, Tom, which style/color did you go with?

Curious, how do they fit? Did you size down 1/2 or full size?

Actually, I was mistaken in my first comment. I have the 403 (Chromexcel).

They fit like a glove. I’m a natural 12.5/13 medium and I got a 12M. Go down a half size. Alden’s sizing chart: http://www.alden-of-carmel.com/index.cfm/fitting.htm The Indys are on the Trubalance last.

I sized down 1/2 size on both of my Alden longwings w/ Barrie lasts, so standard procedure on the sizing down.

By the way… 12.5./13! Your feet are big as hell! Just like your thighs I suppose. hahaha.

I’m digging the color on the boots 3rd from the bottom!

Just came across this post and wondered if you ever went for the Indys. I covet a pair, but it’s a lotta coin (at least, to me it is). If you have them, though, I’d be curious to hear a review.

I always seem to opt for other shoes every time I have enough scratch to snag a pair. I ended up going with a pair of Oak Street Boots last year… http://wp.me/pXXtj-xa

Alas, the Indy boot is again on my need to acquire list for this A/W season. I have decided on probably going with the Chrome Excel when I do end up pulling the purchase trigger.

Any questions you have regarding quality or design, after owning 5 other pair of Alden’s, that they are some of the best shoes a man can get his feet in and I’m sure the Indy boots foot the bill as well.

The cost is substantial, but every pair of Alden’s are well worth every penny you’ll put down on ‘em.
