Oak Street Bootmakers | Navy Vibram Sole Camp Boot

February 11, 2011

No other apparel is enjoying its moment the limelight in the menswear game like boots are right now. Fortunately for footwear addicts like myself there are plenty of options out there for a quality pair of boots. Yuketen makes a wonderful guide boot that will set you back half a grand. While Alden, Red Wing and Wolverine all design first-rate footwear, they really don’t manufacture a “guide” or “mocc” boot creation. Though options abound, I believe I have found my new favorite in Oak Street Bootmakers. After getting my hands on (and feet in) the Vibram Sole Navy Camp Boot my experience has been nothing short of perfect and my report is wholly commendatory.

Oak Street Bootmakers founder and designer George Vlago was born a cobbler’s son and continues to live up to his family heritage by handcrafting Oak Street’s footwear in the USA from Horween Chromexcel, featuring unparalleled comfort and detail. Other than a used pair on eBay, I can’t imagine one could find equivalent footwear at Oak St’s price points made with such quality and attention to detail.

After wearing these for a little under a week I can’t see myself gravitating toward another boot anytime soon. The navy Horween Chromexcel has retained its fragrant leathery scent that regularly reminds me of the boot’s presence throughout the day. If someone would bottle this aromatic smell, I would pay big bucks for an aftershave that let me beautifully reek of fine leather all day.

I sized down 1/2 size, as I don’t like a ton of wiggle room in my boots and they fit well. Arresting as they are fresh out of the box, I look forward to the enchanting look they will possess after some good time pounding the pavement (see Simple Threads Trail Oxfords after three months of wear).

If you like what you see, head over to Oak Street Bootmakers and procure a pair of your own. Like other shoe purchases we have all made at one time or another, you won’t ever regret it.

ps: what is your height and inseam that you’re wearing on those jeans? i really like the rise you’re getting w/ single cuff, looks really clean.

Thanks my man. I am a 32 X 30 but had these Rag & Bone’s brought up to around a 29 inseam. Add the cuff and it lets me show off some ankle or in this case, top of boot… haha.

These look incredible! Just when I thought I had made my mind up about Oak Street, you and Simplethreads convince me otherwise. I can’t afford Yuketens, so this is heavily persuading my decision.

Jeremiah, what camera are you using?

I have truly enjoyed them and don’t think you’d be disappointed in them. George takes good care if his customers, so if you procured a pair and didn’t like them, I’m sure he would have no problems in you returning them without much of a hassle. I had a fit issue and he was really helpful in getting me into a pair that was what I needed.

Concerning the camera… most of my photos are taken with a Canon T2i.
