Longwing Lust

February 15, 2011

Got a hankering after a pair of longwing brogues but don’t have half a grand to drop to cop? Look no further than these (somewhat) affordable wing tips to meet your needs.

Florsheim Kenmoor | $225

Sanders and Sanders + Mark McNairy | $255

Allen Edmonds MacNeil | $325

Florsheim Veblen | $160

If anyone else has some (somewhat) affordable longwings they want to recommend, post them to the comments.

Bass makes a suede, brick soled option for $80

Do you own it and recommend it? Not had a pair of Bass in some time. Link?

I do, and I do. Also it can be had for under $70, as here:

There’s kind of a weird seam on one side, but otherwise good enough.

Not going to lie, that seam on the interior is a bit strange but for $70 one can’t scoff too loudly.

The only Bass I have owned are the Beefroll Weejuns and I remember them being quiet comfortable. Hey, if they were good enough for JFK, they are good enough for all of us.

    J. Crew has a couple of options…

    • February 15, 2011 9:13 pm

Not going to lie, I have always had a good experience with J Crew shoes. I have a pair of J Crew boots that were made in Italy I have had for 14 years that are still looking good and going strong.

Though the last time I looked, J Crew’s in house wing tips were all short wing rather than long. There longwing options are all Alden (which I own and enjoy).

I just ordered (and oddly also bloged about) the Kenmoors. Haven’t gotten them yet, but I’ll let you know my verdict.

      Great minds think alike… haha.

Seriously though, would love to hear how they turn out.

Got em! They fit ok, but the color is much darker than it looks on theshoemart.com, so I’m sending them back. The search continues…

Well shit man. Sorry that they didn’t work out for you. For what it’s worth, I paid the $450 for the J. Crew + Alden waxed tobacco longwings and really have enjoyed them.

Of course, if one pays damn near $500 for a pair of shoes, he better enjoy them. haha.

Let me know what you end up trying out next.

Clarks Dino Limit. Only available in Europe but totally worth picking up a pair when you’re there. http://www.clarks.co.uk/find/product-is-20343605

I received my Bass Barrets a few weeks back – great pair of shoes & surprising quality at that pricepoint. Looking forward to sporting them this S/S with or without socks.

While not exactly long wings, I did just scoop a pair of the Allen Edmonds McAllister wingtips on ebay for $30. I would highly recommend to anyone on the lurch for fancy shoes to dive into ebay. Alden and Allen Edmonds are a aplenty on ebay.
