Gitman Bros. Vintage | Blackwatch Plaid
Autumn means it’s time for blackwatch tartan. The powerful plaid is named for the Royal Highlanders (aka the Black Watch) who trace their history back as early as 1725. These men of the Royal Highland Regiment were stationed throughout Scotland to police the fighting among the clans and thwart any plans against the throne. The gentleman of the Black Watch were the finest of Highlanders who were loyal to the crown of England. Many say they became known as “Am Freiceadan Dubh” (or the Black Watch) due to their tartan plaid, as other cavalryman often wore bright reds but the men of the Black Watch wore black, blue and green tartan to camouflage themselves in the forests when on duty.
The classic military camouflage, today blackwatch tartan is the perfect plaid to add some enthusiasm to your attire without going full blown MARPAT pixelated digital woodland camo.
